Rodents are God's way of telling you that you've got too much garbage. You can conceal the smell of garbage with regular doses of peppermint oil. Also, bagging your garbage (and your food) in plastic keeps mice and rats from smelling them.
Better yet, get rid of the garbage, and the rodents will follow. If they don't, try Fresh Cab®, an EPA-tested and approved, biodegradable rodent repellant. It's a lot better than trying to shoot rats with a semi-automatic weapon.
Why? Because they are such tiny targets.
